After a brief-ish break from the blog, I’m back. I shan’t bore you with excuses and reasons, I’ll just slip back into!
I’ve given the site a new theme I’d found. Looks pretty good. Well, unless you liked my other theme! I’ll work on a new one soon. I’ve gained quite a bit of experience at work building WordPress and WordPress MU sites. It’s been hectic.
Just heading back from a party in Leeds for Julie, Andy and little William. Well he’s not so little now!
Congrats to Julie on her Phd. Good luck to flyboy Andy. And well done to William for not dribbling as much as his drunken cohorts!
Oh, and happy birthday!
It was a great party. There are some photos which I’m sure will grace Facebook soon!
Well my folks have now added a new member to the family. Chester is now at home happilly chewing and peeing everywhere! Buffy (our other dog) has got the hump though. I’m sure it won’t be long before they’re both running around like loonies together!

So, we’re at the 3 month mark now. I must admit, I didn’t think I’d make it this far, let alone move to a more permanent hosting arrangement. The readership is huge (yet), but the numbers are going up. So thanks to all of you that dare to get an insight in my mind! I’ve learnt a couple of things since doing this and though I’d share my blogging experience.
Write about what you want
I’ve found I get a better repsonse by writing about what I want instead of what I think people will want. Journalists get paid to write what people want, bloggers write about their thoughts and feelings. When I first started I was very tempted to write things to encourage people to read this. But that’s just not necessary. Like minded people will read it anyway. If you write it, they will come.
Links
If you refer to things, films, etc, put a link to more information about it. It is the Internet after all!
Write Personally
Write about things in the style you want, not necessarily the correct way. I try to keep my grammar on the straight and narrow, but let the words flow a bit more. Use colloquialisms, but provide explanation or links that explain it for the guys out there that don’t know what a chav is, for instance. A blog is a personal thing, not an essay!
So the experiment continues. See you in 3 more months! And thanks for reading.
Hi All. After a brief break in posts I’m back. I’ve moved the site across to WordPress on my own host now. As I’ve got into this a little bit its worth the small investment in hosting. I’ve also got version 1 of my theme. Constructive criticism gratefully accepted. A couple of CSS issues to fix and it’ll done.
I came across this article listing the 5 best controllers of all time, CNet. Nostalgia crept back as the first image I see is of the trusty Atari joystick of my youth. I got one of these with my first computer and I have to say, at the time, it was better than a lot of the after market ones. In my opinion of course! I went through loads of these. I say “I”, but I mean my brothers broke them enthusiastically playing Centipede or Daley Thompson’s Decathlon. I think I’ve got one working one somewhere safe.
Fave games at the time. Me, Zybex – Atari XE. Matt, I think it was Commando or something like that. Darren – Exile, C64. Classics!
If they’re reading this, you two owe me at least 1 joystick each!
So after years of stalled attempts to build my website I’d decided to admit I’m not a designer and to just embrace the web. Plus, due to the lack of techies (just me and Phil) at work, if I feel the need, I can geek out here to the masses!
Lets see if I can keep this up for at least 6 months.
See you there?
